Enhancing farmer awareness on the use of certified seed :KEPHIS and Seed companies convenes a farmers’ baraza in Githunguri, Kiambu County.
As part of its broader strategy to curb the proliferation of fake seeds in the market KEPHIS convened a farmers’ baraza in Githunguri, Kiambu County. The engagement aimed to enhance farmer awareness on the identification and use of certified seed—a critical pillar in safeguarding food security.
Farmers drawn from all five wards of Githunguri Sub-County actively participated in the session. Through interactive learning and direct engagement with experts from KEPHIS and seed companies, farmers acquired practical knowledge on how to distinguish between genuine and counterfeit seeds.
In attendance were KEPHIS officials, representatives from seed companies, County Agricultural Officers, and National Government Administration Officers (NGAO). This multi-stakeholder presence underscored the importance of a coordinated approach in combating the fake seed menace, reinforcing government’s commitment to protecting farmers and strengthening the integrity of the seed value chain.
This baraza forms part of KEPHIS’ ongoing nationwide campaign to promote the use of quality seeds.
