KEPHIS Empowers Makueni Farmers with Sustainable Pest Management Training to Boost Mango and Avocado Exports

Today, 12th June 2025, KEPHIS  led a farmers’ training in Makueni County, focusing on mango and avocado production. The training brought together KEPHIS,farmers, Makueni county officials  and students to strengthen knowledge on the identification and management of key pests affecting these high-value crops produced in Makueni County and exported to various destinations. Emphasis was put on sustainable pest control methods (Use of integrated pest management) such as the use of pheromone traps, food baits, solarization bags,Augmentorium and good agricultural practices, all aimed at improving orchard sanity and high productivity by reducing pest prevalence for compliance with export market requirements. 
This initiative reflects on KEPHIS strategic commitment to enhancing market access for Kenya’s agricultural produce through capacity building and compliance with international market requirements. By empowering farmers with practical tools and information, we aim to ensure continued access to global markets, boost income for farming communities, and uphold Kenya’s reputation as a reliable exporter of quality horticultural products.
